About the Coffee

Our Grand Cru series features extraordinary coffees individually curated by Farhan, 2023 SCA Germany's 3th Best Brewer .

Each selection comes from micro- and nano-lots across the Indonesian archipelago, chosen not only for their unique cup profiles but also for the story of hard work, passion, and craftsmanship behind them.

Semendo Supernatural offers a sensory journey from the moment you open the bag:

  1. A welcoming aroma of fresh roast and tropical fruits.
  2. Grinding intensifies the experience, releasing notes of warm spices and lush tropical fruit.
  3. In the cup, as the coffee warms, expect a silky body and bright notes of green grape, starfruit, and cherry, finishing with a lingering, clean aftertaste.
  4. As it cools, a vibrant cherry-like sweetness emerges, adding a final layer of delight.

Thanks to the high-altitude volcanic terroir of Semendo Highlands and clean mountain air, this coffee presents a clean, rich, fruity sweetness balanced by smooth, elegant acidity.

The cherries undergo anaerobic fermentation followed by a careful three-layer drying process, allowing the vibrant character of the terroir to shine through naturally.

The Producer – Curators Coffee Company

Curators Coffee Company (CCC) was founded by Raymond Ali and Gavin Suryo with a simple but powerful mission: to bridge the gap between Indonesian farmers and the advanced post-harvest techniques used internationally.

By making global research accessible, CCC empowers farmers with simple, practical SOPs to improve their coffee quality from the ground up.

Today, CCC works with farms across seven mountain regions, focusing on supporting lesser-known or newly established producers — especially those needing financial and technical support.

Raymond’s sincerity and leadership, despite his young age, have earned deep trust and respect from farmers.

At CCC, passion for coffee is matched by a commitment to community, sustainability, and lasting impact.

The Terroir – Semendo Highlands

The fertile volcanic soils and pristine air of Semendo create ideal conditions for clean, elegant coffees.

Yet reaching the plantations is no easy feat — a six-hour uphill motorbike journey is required, making transporting cherries risky and challenging.

To protect quality at origin, CCC established processing facilities at 1,800 meters above sea level, directly at the farm site.

With no access to electricity, they built a small renewable solar power plant, proving that determination, not convenience, defines quality.

Every sip of Semendo Supernatural is the result of grit, dedication, and respect for the land, grown sustainably with minimal resources but maximum heart.

Frequently asked questions

ABout the coffee

Is the coffee freshly roasted?

Yes. We roast our coffee in small batches every week. After roasting, the beans are rested for at least one week before shipping. This allows them to reach optimal freshness and ensures they’re ready to brew when they arrive.

Why do the beans need to rest for one to two weeks after roasting?

After roasting, coffee beans naturally release carbon dioxide in a process called degassing. During this resting period, the flavors continue to develop and stabilize. If the beans are used too soon, the coffee may taste unbalanced and produce excessive gas during brewing, leading to suboptimal extraction. In addition, dialing in becomes inconsistent during this phase, making it more difficult to achieve stable and repeatable results.

When is the optimal time to consume our coffee?

Typically, our coffee performs at its peak between 2 weeks and 3 months after roasting, when the flavors are fully developed and stable.
