This coffee feels luxurious yet balanced. The cup opens with a bold body that immediately commands attention, then softens into a velvety mouthfeel. The acidity is pleasant and well-structured, finishing with a clean floral brightness.
Jasmine, cacao nibs, tangerine, and brown sugar blend together tocreate a profile that is elegant and layered: sweet florals, gentle citrus, and a subtle sweet-bitter finish that lingers in harmony. It’s a cup that delivers both strength and refinement.
What does the name mean
This coffee is part of our Good Morning series – a line created to deliver the perfect everyday cup: well-balanced, smooth, and never overly acidic.
The name Ali carries two layers of meaning. First, it honors Raymond Ali, the producer behind this coffee. And second, it’s a small tribute to our courier, also named Ali, who shows up at our shop every morning to send out packages. Just like him, this coffee has become part of our daily rhythm – reliable, comforting, and always welcome at the start of the day.
Behind the origin
Curators Coffee Company (CCC) was founded by Raymond Ali and Gavin Suryo with a clear mission: to bridge the gap between Indonesian farmers and advanced post-harvest techniques from around the world. By making global research accessible and turning it into simple, practical SOPs, CCC empowers farmers to consistently improve their coffee quality from the ground up. Today, they work with farms across seven mountain regions, supporting especially those who are lesser-known or just starting out, often with both financial and technical guidance.
Raymond Ali himself is regarded as one of Indonesia’s coffee legends, active since 2010. Competing in the Indonesian Barista Championship (IBC) since around 2012, he has repeatedly reached the finals, including a close 2nd place finish using his own Semendo coffee, outperforming many competitors who showcased Geisha. True to his roots, Raymond always represents Semendo coffee from his home village in South Sumatra, driven by a personal mission to elevate his family’s coffee to the national and global stage.
Known for his sincerity and consistency, Raymond has become a reference point for coffee processing in Indonesia. After learning techniques from Panama and Brazil, he brought that knowledge home, inspiring farmers to adopt better practices. His dedication has not only improved quality but also reshaped how processors across the country approach coffee.
The fertile volcanic soils and pristine air of Semendo create ideal conditions for clean, elegant coffees. Yet reaching the plantations is no easy feat, requiring a six-hour uphill motorbike journey, which makes transporting cherries risky and challenging. To protect quality at origin, CCC established processing facilities at 1,800 masl, directly at the farm site. With no access to electricity, they built a small renewable solar power plant, proving that determination, not convenience, defines quality.
This lot, grown at 1,600–1,800 masl, features varieties such as Andungsari, Kartika, and Liberica. Kartika, a Catimor descendant requiring high elevation, thrives here despite its robusta lineage, proof of how strong terroir and careful processing can elevate even “ordinary” varieties into extraordinary cups.
Every sip of Semendo Supernatural is the result of grit, dedication, and respect for the land, grown sustainably with minimal resources but maximum heart. For Meramanis, it is a privilege to be among the first exporters trusted by Raymond Ali and his family to bring their coffees outside Indonesia. Just like CCC, we share the vision of building Indonesian coffee’s reputation worldwide, not just through quality, but through community, sincerity, and resilience.
